Science & Engineering Comms / Licensing (S&E)

The Science & Engineering - Comms/Licensing unit actively markets and licenses to the industry technologies developed by A*STAR's science & engineering research institutes. The team regularly meets companies to understand their technology requirements, and matches them with A*STAR's technology portfolio. Working with industry players, investment community and A*STAR's research institutes, we seek to identify and bring key leading-edge research to market. The transfer of technology to companies is then achieved through licensing deals and research collaborations.

Biomedical Sciences(BMS)

The Biomedical Sciences Division, with its varied experience and expertise in the life sciences, commercialises the inventions and discoveries by A*STAR's researchers in the Biomedical Sciences research institutes, consortiums and BMRC Extramural grant recipients. This is achieved through licensing deals and research collaboration projects between the A*STAR's research institutes and industry.

 

The Biomedical Sciences Division actively seeks commercialisation opportunities for the following technologies:

  • Biopharmaceuticals
  • Medical devices
  • Nanotechnology
  • Bioinformatics
  • Genomics and proteomics
  • Molecular and cell biology

 

 

Planning, Innovation Network and Enterprise (PINE)

The Planning, Innovation Networks and Enterprise Division is responsible for corporate planning for Exploit Technologies.  It is also responsible for the Technology Transfer Network (TTN), Angels Investment Management (AIM), and the Traineeship for Technology Transfer Management (T3M) programs.
 
The TTN is a global alliance of 24 institutions from United States of America, Canada, UK, Germany, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore to facilitate enhance collaboration and exchange of best practices to accelerate technology transfer to the industry.
 
AIM provides the platform to encourage the formation of angel networking groups in Singapore and encourage mutual exchange of best practices amongst member organisations.
 
T3M is a full-time 2-year traineeship program with a mixed-mode pedagogy that includes workshops, bootcamps, lectures, e-learning and on-the-job projects.

 

 

Investment and Spin-off Management (ISM)

The Investment and Spin-off Management Division is responsible for providing incubation, fund-raising activities, business plan coaching and mentoring services to A*STAR spin-offs.
 
Core programs include: 

  • The Founders Club: Encourages technopreneurship by providing a platform for serial entrepreneurs to meet with researchers and scientists.
  • The Mentor-Mentee Matching (M3): To provide mentorship to spinoffs.
  • Venture Capital Forums: For spin-off companies to present to Venture Capitalists
  • Incubation services for A*STAR related spin-offs

 

 

Intellectual Property Management (IPM)

The Intellectual Property Management Division manages the Intellectual Property (IP) generated by A*STAR's research institutes. It value-adds its services to A*STAR, its research institutes, and Exploit Technologies through:

  • providing a holistic view of the patent landscape to enhance the patent portfolio and commercialisation efforts;
  • developing and organising IP training programmes or talks to enhance A*STAR researchers’ IP awareness and thereby be informed of the latest IP developments;
  • and reporting on A*STAR’s patent portfolio to keep stakeholders informed of our IP. This is achieved through the Division's key functions that includes evaluation of technology disclosures, prosecution of patent applications, and maintenance of granted patents, all with a common objective of obtaining a licensable patent portfolio. Currently, the IPM Division manages more than 2000 active applications and patents.

 

 

Corporate Marketing & Communications

The Corporate Marketing & Communications Division spearheads the branding and marketing activities of Exploit Technologies Pte Ltd. It manages integrated communications, publicity, media relations and develops effective media and marketing strategies to enhance the profile of Exploit Technologies and A*STAR in areas of science, technology and research.

 

 

Corporate Services

The Corporate Services Division supports Exploit Technologies Pte Ltd in performing the functions of Human Resources (HR) and Finance. Besides formulating and reviewing HR and Finance policies and guidelines for the company, it provides HR and Finance advisory services to all levels of staff to ensure smooth implementation of HR and Finance policies and guidelines at all times.
