The Investment & Spin-Off Management (ISM) team works with the founding team to develop a business plan and provides business support such as marketing, mentorship, business development and networking. It will also help in the recruitment of management and board members.
More critically, the Investment & Spin-Off Management (ISM) team will help to raise capital through its network in the investment community.

ISM promotes entrepreneurship within the researcher community by supporting budding technopreneurs from A*STAR's Research Institutes who desire to spin-off their inventions. We work with the scientists to develop a technology and business roadmap that will culminate into a worldclass business plan and provide necessary spin-off services.

Mr Frankie Tan
Experience: He was an Advisor for the S&E Division of ETPL,A*STAR. He advises equity portfolio companies (spun- off from A*STAR) held by ETPL Investments, development and commercialization of emerging technologies. He currently serves as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence in ETPL and is their nominee director on the boards of Commontown Pte Ltd, BLC Solutions Pte Ltd and D-SIMLAB Technologies Pte Ltd. He was appointed Adjunct Associate Professor in the Division of Engineering and Technology Management, NUS Faculty of Engineering. Concurrently, he is leading customer development efforts at NiuTree Technologies Pte Ltd. He was Senior Vice President at Vertex Management, a Singapore- based international venture capital company. Frankie was involved in more than 20 investments in Europe and Singapore.
Education: Frankie holds MSc in Financial Management (with Distinction) from the University of London, UK and in Strategic Management (Dean’s Honours List) from the NTU, Singapore. He is also a graduate of the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants in the United Kingdom, and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore.
Mr Yong Lum Sung
Experience: Mr Lum Sung Yong has more than thirty years of industry experience. Earlier on, he was with the Dutch multinational company, Philips, in various technical, commercial and general management positions. His subsequent appointments include: General Manager, ST Mobile Data Pte Ltd and ST SunPage Pte Ltd; President, Singapore Cable Vision Ltd and Group Chief Operating Officer, StarHub Ltd. Currently, he serves on the boards of several companies.
Education: Lum Sung has a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Singapore and a Graduate Diploma in Accounting and Finance from the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants, UK. He has also attended the Advanced Management Programme at Harvard Business School.
Mentors are expected to spend 1-2 days a month while catalysts work for 2-3 days a week with a start-up.
