Licensing of SIMTech's PhotoCatalytic Coating to Haruna Pte Ltd

Technology
Dirt accumulation on building exteriors has poised considerable problems for building maintenance. Cleaning of such building surface is generally done by using detergents accompanied with scrubbing, wiping and high-pressure water jet. These processes have several shortcomings such as use of chemical detergents, high consumption of energy and labor cost. In recent years, "self-cleaning" coating has gained considerable industry attention.
Photo-Catalytic coating is a self-cleaning coating which is activated by radiation. This self-cleaning coating contains a metal oxide known as titanium dioxide (TiO2). With assistance of little UV light from fluorescence source or sunlight, it has the ability to cause selective oxidation at its surface, causing a “self cleaning” effect. A radiant activated surface can be utilized in many applications such as anti-bacteria, anti-fogging, deodorization and water purification.

Company
Haruna Pte Ltd supplies paints and it focuses in developing paints and coatings with functional properties like thermal, fire and acoustic insulation, water-repellent, self-cleaning and anti-bacterial. It was awarded contracts for many local and public buildings in Singapore and is planning to penetrate into South-East Asian countries in the near future.

Benefits
With this license, Haruna intends to further develop this invention to expand their product range to cover self-cleaning top coating for our tropical climate. Such coating will help to reduce the maintenance cost of high-rise buildings.
